Our Program

Cascades Flag Football league is open to children ages 5-14 in Kindergarten through Middle School. Divisions are in 4 grade divisions, (K-1, 2-3, 4-5 and Middle School divisions). We play fall and spring seasons on fields in the Cascades/Sterling community.

Spring and Fall seasons are 9-10 weeks long, with practices once a week and weekend games. We encourage all playing abilities and are focused on learning the game, teamwork and having FUN!

Registration Fee
The registration fee (which includes jersey) is $120; late registration fees are $140.

Equipment
Team jersey is included in the registration fee and is required for games. Flag belts are supplied by league. Mouth guards are required for all practices and games. Cleats are optional. Shorts or pants worn in games should be different color from the team's flag colors.

Philosophy
Flag football is a fantastic sport and does not need to be treated as a “stepping stone” for tackle football. There is a growing movement in the USA for Flag Football-ONLY leagues which creates opportunities for boys and girls to play flag football longer (most football leagues that offer flag support only 5-7 year olds and “push” kids into tackle at an early age). We’re not knocking tackle football, but don’t feel it’s for everyone or for all ages. We want to give all kids an opportunity to play the great sport of football in a safe and fun environment.

Team Formation
We are asked often to "keep-with" friends and previous coaches. Although the league would like the opportunity to accommodate everyone's requests, it makes it impossible to achieve our most important goal, which is to create balanced and equal teams each season. Therefore our methodology is to create teams by balancing out players by age, size, playing experience and coach's reviews for returning players. We also hold a "player skills assessment day" for the 2-3, 4-5 & MS divisions so coaches can evaluate the players.  Coaches participate in a draft to pick teams.  As for requesting coaches—we take this as a great compliment to our coaching staff! We're excited for such great feedback from returning players but also look forward to our players learning from our other great coaches. As setting equal teams is our most important task to make a successful season for everyone, please refrain from making special requests (the two we prioritize are for pairing coaches/asst coaches and their children; and keeping siblings in same age group on same team, when requested).

Coaches and Parent Volunteers
Our league cannot exist without the dedication and support from parent volunteers and coaches. The league supports its volunteer coaches with an outline of goals and objectives for the season and supplies lesson plans and other helpful tools, this helps us maintain a consistently high quality of learning for all teams in the league. All coaches are required to complete an application as well as complete a background check.

Referees
We value the role referees play in our league and create opportunities for those 13 & over experienced in flag football to take on additional duties as paid referees in our program. We offer pre-season training and in-season on-field mentoring and assign two referees and/or adult refs to each game. Our coaches are invaluable in assisting our program and aid each season to clarify and improve our rules. The league asks all parents/players to respect our refs and their challenging job and remember, most of all, that they are children to other parents in our league too. Parents who challenge the judgement of our referees will be asked to step in to do the training and job our referees do every week!
